Louisville, Kentucky

August 2019

I traveled to Louisville to see my roommate, Maggie! I drove from Dayton on Saturday around 11:30 AM. I first stopped at Bluegrass Brewing Company where former Director of Discipleship, Jessica Kotilla (Kelecava) works before she begins her chaplain program. Then I drove to my hotel for the night, Marriott Residence Inn Oxmoor/East Louisville. On Saturday evening, Maggie and I attended Mass at a nearby church and then went to Joella's, a hot fried chicken place. It was really good. Then we walked around a nearby indoor mall. Maggie stayed the night with me at the hotel and we watched Hercules. (her first time!)

On Sunday, I woke up to the tragic events that unfolded at Ned Pepper's Bar in the Oregon District of Dayton and flood of messages making sure I was okay from concerned family and friends. We checked out of the hotel and went to the Louisville Slugger Museum, we didn't take a tour but we made sure to get a mini bat! Then we traveled to the NuLu area where there were many cute independently owned boutiques and shops. For lunch, we went to Against the Grain Smokehouse & Brewery. I tried my first (and possibly only) Old Fashioned.

After lunch, we stopped by Angel's Envy Distillery to pick up some Kentucky Bourbon for my Uncle and family. Then we drove to Churchill Downs to see where the Kentucky Derby and Oaks take place. We only went to the gift shop but I got some cool photos of the grounds. Next, we stopped at Dairy Kastle for a sweet treat before saying goodbye. It was my fourth trip this year and the 7th state. I look forward to exploring the Cleveland area with a Dayton alumna friend as well as a family this upcoming weekend!
